SWEATSHOP paintings is a series of mixed media works by Jakub Kalousek as a part of the "CULTIVATING COMPLACENCY" traveling residency project sponsored by the Church of Intellectual Athletes ( CIA ). Paintings on canvas of T-shirts with catchy, droll, phrases reflects contemporary trends in attaining identity through "cheek-and-face" personalization while exploiting cheap labor worldwide. It is a perfect model of modern hegemony in disguise called up here in a self-deprecating "modus operandi” thus fulfilling the “Cultivating Complacency” framework model. The novelty and cynicism, when “artfully" combined can yield a sense of personal intimacy, no matter how false its quiddity may be. Sweatshop paintings are another "artful" attempt to quantify on the same theme yet on another a meta-level that will push it up further on the asymptote of human extinction trajectory.
